𝐀𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 (AHPND) is a disease caused by infection with 𝑽𝒊𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒐 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒍𝒚𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒔. AHPND is also called Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS). The infected shrimps may appear to have black spots or streaks visible within the hepatopancreas, atrophy (shrinkage) of the hepatopancreas, and guts with discontinuous contents or no contents.
